Hi, I’m Julie Hillyard.
I help people build stronger relationships by teaching them how to have the conversations that matter most—especially when they’re hard.
My passion for communication started early. While studying psychology at BYU, I taught classes to male inmates and mentored women in the Utah State Prison. That experience taught me that people—no matter their background—crave to be heard and understood.
During my professional career, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People as he wrote The 8th Habit, helping him deliver presentations to leaders around the world. Since then, I’ve taught, trained, and consulted in a wide variety of settings—but my deepest learning has come at home.
My husband and I have three kids, including one with a rare genetic disorder called Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. For years we searched for answers, tried every therapy and support we could find, and learned firsthand how hard it is to stay connected under stress. I knew the communication skills—but living them in real life, when emotions run high, is another story.
That’s what drives me now: helping couples stay connected through the messiness of real life—one conversation at a time.
